The Energizing Smoothie You Need in Your Life

Waking up is hard to do.

There's a reason why there's a song about it, by an artist I can't even name. And if you just name dropped the band in your head, congratulations, you're a pop culture wizard.

My morning routine goes a little something like this:

The sound of the alarm barks three times before the snooze button gets tapped. My sleepy eyes open to be met by a tiny cat and a normal sized boyfriend. The day's first ounce of energy is dedicated to extending my arm out to haphazardly pet both of them.... and then I'm tempted to fall back asleep, almost instantly.

But then I remember it's time to get shit done.

As anti-romantic as that sounds, it's a necessary thought that needs to fly in and out of my mind to start the day. And it works.

The only thing I do before busting into the kitchen to mix my smoothie is make the bed. *Don don don... the most daunting childhood chore of all time.* A few years ago, I read about a study conducted by Hunch.com that determined people who make their beds in the morning start the day with a sense of accomplishment and are generally more happy than those who don't. I've been making the bed ever since.

I'm not exactly on cloud 9 after the bed is set, which is why this energizing smoothie is 100% necessary.

I drink it almost every day and never tire of sipping on its delicately balanced, bright flavors. It's packed with superfoods like chia and flax seeds, both of which are super rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And you guessed it, known for giving you an extra energy boost!

When Matcha became popular, I'll be honest, I really wasn't on board with the grassy taste. However, when paired with tropical fruits and fresh ginger in this smoothie, I can't get enough of it. It's a MATCHA MADE IN HEAVEN. It's also been shown to improve attention, memory and reaction time for those ultra busy work days.

Fresh ginger is also one of my favorite ingredients, not just in this recipe, but in all forms of cooking. It naturally helps manage your blood sugar levels, which can sharpen your focus and keep you on task. Some even say ginger is the equivalent of a 5-hour energy drink. Based on my personal experience, I agree.

The last ingredient I'm newly obsessed with is Maca powder. Maca is subtly earthy and a tad nutty on its own. Don't worry, because you won't taste it in this recipe. Supposedly it helps build muscle, can increase your stamina and gives you tons of energy! Fun fact: it was also historically used as a fertility solution in Peru to boost sex drives. So, you're welcome.

All of these lovely ingredients come together to make one badass morning smoothie. I can't wait for you to try it.
